  • Product Review: DROK Electric Straightening Hairbrush

Ever take a look at your hairbrush and ask yourself, "I wonder if they could make a straightening tool in the shape of a brush?" Well now there is!

Recently we've had the opportunity to review the DROK Electric Straightening Hairbrush. This product is shaped just like a standard Oval Paddle Brush. While it is not as light as your typical hairbrush, for having a heatingIMG_7291 element in its' back, it is not very heavy. The brush features a very ergonomic design which makes for easy styling. The maximum temperature setting is 450 degrees Fahrenheit, 232 Celsius. The brush has a relatively quick heat up of about 3-5 minutes. Prior to using the brush it is essential that you comb through your hair with a regular hair brush to remove any knots. While the product is a hair brush, the bristles are not flexible like those of a regular brush. Once you've combed through your hair and the brush is heated up, you can take sections of about an inch to an inch andIMG_7289 a half, and brush through. If the brush is IMG_7287on the proper heating setting, it should only take 1 to 2 swipes to achieve straight hair. With a simple flick in the wrist, you can also create flips or angles to style your hair. Unlike flat irons, this is not a product you can create curls with. This is a great product for all ages and hair types. We tested this product on mildly wavy hair, and it was able to straighten and style the hair perfectly! Because of the high temperature settings an entire head of medium-long hair, took about 15 minutes to straighten.

Pros: Reasonably priced, ergonomic handle, swivel cord, quick heat up, custom adjustable temperature settings, easy to use and an   overall effective styling tool.

    Cons: Temperature displays in Celsius.

  • Hairstyling Tip of the Day: Beating the Humidity

humid hair, humid hair tips, humidity and hair, hair and humidity, how to beat the humidity, protecting your hair from humidity

Here at StyleBell, we know hair. So, with that, we also know how frustrating the summer's humidity can be for most hair types. We've decided to fight this humidity battle with you by rounding up all of our tried and true methods to prevent the humid moisture from messing up your hair and your day. These are our go-to tips:

1.) Switch up your shampoo: There are two opposite problems humidity can cause for you depending on your hair type. If you're someone who's hair flops and falls flat as soon as there is a tiny bit of moisture in the air, switch to a super light weight volumizing shampoo. This will prevent the added moisture in the air from weighing your hair down & causing you to look oily and straggly. If you're the type, like me, who's hair tends to grow while it is humid, switch to a super heavy moisture shampoo and conditioner. This will jam pack your hair with moisture and prevent it from absorbing too much in the humidity. Plus, if your straight style tends to curl up in the moisture, the added weight of this shampoo and conditioner combo will help it from growing upwards and probably contribute to a nice, natural wave!

2.) Use products generously! Even if you are afraid the humidity will weigh you down and make you fall flat, do NOT -- I repeat -- do NOT avoid using products because of this. Load your hair up generously with all of your favorite styling products, including a thermal protectant with a humidity shield. Adding product while styling provides a coating that the moisture would have to break through first before causing any havoc on your style. We like to refer to it as our product forcefield ;)

3.) Don't be afraid to get sprayed: I know there are tons of people who absolutely hair to use hairspray -- I am one of them. However, when you know it is humid, you must go against your belief of remaining hairspray and natural and spray it up! Using a light finishing spray or a light hold hairspray reinforces that product forcefield we just discussed and actually reactivates when it is humid out to double protect your hair. Be sure you are looking for a humidity shield or protectant while product shopping!

We hope we've given you some helpful tips as to how to beat this humid season with perfect hair!

  • Hairstyling Tip of the Day: Wake Up with Great Hair!

wake up with good hair, hairstyling tip of the day, waking up with good hair, tips to wake up with good hair, good hair tips, healthy hair tips, blow out tips, tips to maintain your blow out, overnight hair tips, bang tips, hair, bangs, maintain your blow out, deep conditioner tricks, maintaining your bangs, bang maintenance, hair maintenance, bang up keep, hair up keep, keeping your blow out overnight
    Maintaining Your Blowout without Creases:
The best way to maintain the volume and smoothness of your blowout overnight is to avoid the use of hair elastics in every way. However, you should absolutely smooth your hair back to prevent creases from lying on it, as well. How do we recommend you do this? Rolling your hair up with a bun-ease into a nice smooth bun – it will ass volume, keep hair smooth, and maybe even add a nice loose wave! Is your hair not long enough for a bun-ease? Use extra long bobby pins to roll your hair into a high bun in the same way. For a smoother, sleeker, less wavy look, wrap all of your hair around your head as seen above, and secure with a bobby pin. Sure, you may look silly, but I can guarantee your blowout will last!

Waking Up With Waves: Part your hair down the middle and braid or twist your hair in a pigtail fashion to evenly distribute waves across your head. Braids will give you a tighter, more kinky curl where twisting your hair (adding pieces in here and there) to secure the twist will give you loose, more beachy waves. You can control the type of wave you get by where you start your braids/twist. If you want just a little bit of wave at the ends, start there, if you want an all over look, try French braiding or twisting your hair while continuously adding new pieces into the twist.

Keep Your Bangs Banging: Bangs can be one of the most difficult tasks for some, especially those of us with cow-licks. However, they don't have to be! Once you’ve styled your bangs to perfection, there’s no reason you can’t maintain that style for days with your perfect blowout. Bangs can be tough, since they tend to get smushed around while we sleep no matter how we secure them, but there is definitely some quick fixes for it! Secure your bangs down to either side while you sleep using a bobby pin or any other type of flat pin. Some may fall out, but that’s okay, because you can fix it in the morning with a light mist of a water and leave-in conditioner combo and give it a quick blow dry back in place. It’s amazing how much this extra step of styling can actually help train cowlicks also!

Get Serious About Hydration: One of our FAVORITE ways to get the most out of any hair treatments or conditioning treatments is to throw our favorite shower cap on and leave it on overnight. Why? We tend to curl up in blankets when we sleep, raising the naturally elevated temperature of our scalp one or two degrees allowing for intense penetration of all of our favorite treatments. After all, if you’re going to do a treatment, you might as well save time and get the most bang for your buck by doing it while you sleep, right?!

  • Hairstyling Tip of the Day: How To Handle Cowlicks!

cowlicks, hairstyling tip of the day, how to tame your cowlicks, cowlicks, reese witherspoon, hair hacks, hair tricks, hair tips, reese witherspoon hair, reese witherspoon cowlick, how to handle cowlicks

We know how frustrating cowlicks can be but unfortunately, almost everyone has one in one place or another! The most pesky place? Right along your front hairline, or in the bang like Reese Witherspoon. Depending on how resistant your hair type is and how stubborn your cowlick choses to be, we've listed our favorite ways to conquer the cowlick! If one doesn't work for you, try another or a combination of a few -- something is bound to work, we promise!

1.) Blow Dry Away from the Cowlick Pattern: You've probably already tried to train your re-train hair while blowdrying, but when it comes to cowlicks, technique is key. Drying cowlicks should be done IMMEDIATELY after you wash your hair. Letting the hair dry naturally, even just slightly, before blowdrying allows the cowlick to start to "take it's form." Eliminate this by blowdrying at least that section while your hair is still sopping wet. Use a firm grip brush and work this section back and forth, mostly away from the growth or "grain" and be sure to follow this up with a cool shot button.

2.) Use a Root Lifter: Root lifters are the perfect hair hair for anyone who suffers from cowlicks. We recommend a mousse-based root lifter that sprays directly onto the root area. This can be used by itself to tame less stubborn cowlicks or in combination with step one for the extra stubborn growth patterns!

3.) Cure Hair with a Keratin Treatment: Some may call this the cheaters way out, but we call it staying sane! If you have had enough of your battle and are tired of feeling defeated, try getting a smoothing treatment applied to just that area, or your whole head if you want to make your styling process really easy! Using a smoothing treatment will seal the hair in place for 4-6 weeks at a time, or until you have new growth. This is definitely worth it -- especially in the humid months of summer! Not to mention, if you stick to applying the treatment just to your problem area, it won't be costly at all!

4.) Tease to Prevent Seperation: This is obviously a more temporary solution, but it's the perfect way to cover cowlicks on the back of the head or directly on the part. Not only will it help to blend in any unsightly parts, but it will give you a crazy boost in volume. Not a bad side effect if you ask me!

5.) When All Else Fails, Rock it! If you're cowlick is too stubborn to response to these helpful hacks, it might be time to switch up your style to one that works more naturally with your cowlick. If your cowlick is on your hairline or part, find a style that will move with your cowlick and start to train the rest of your hair to move that way. After all, cowlicks are the hardest hair to "retrain," so starting fresh with the rest of your hair might be a lot easier!

This beauty trick is one of the very many reasons we insist on everyone keeping a spare toothbrush around for beauty emergencies! Ever put your hair back or style it into the perfect top knot just to have to take it all down and start over because of a few lumpy spots or fly-aways? Not anymore! A toothbrush and a light hold hairspray are all you need! Simply spray the hairspray lightly above the lumpy area, and use the toothbrush to smooth the area back! Don't like hairspray? No problem! This trick works just as well with a lightweight leave-in conditioner! Here's a little how-to video we assembled for you!

Recently, we were lucky enough to get our hands on a sample of this White Sands wonder product Orchid Oils. We could not wait to get our hands on it! Not only is the packaging gorgeous but the product inside is even more amazing! Here's a little more about what we loved about it.

Description & Benefits: "This Orchid oil extract restores moisture, shine, elasticity and softness to hair that has become damaged from chemical treatments, and thermal stress. White Sands’ interest in Orchids for hair is inspired from studies that have shown the orchid’s mysterious capacity for longevity, beauty, and its versatility to adjust to different environments with vibrant color. Orchid oil is very light weight, unlike most other oils it does not affect the hairs ability to perform when styling."

Feel & Scent: The feel and scent of this product are hands-down the absolute best part about it. It smells AMAZING and the super smooth slip and consistency of the oil helps to evenly distribute the product to the ends of your hair without leaving it feeling oily or greasy. It almost has a "dry oil" feel to it, and you can instantly see your hair absorbing all of the benefits of this amazing oil.

Usage: I used 2 pumps of Orchids oil and applied from my mid-shaft to ends and watched my hair absorb it in seconds. It was not too much at all! I used a boar brush to run it through for more even distribution.

Results: I could not say enough about how much I LOVED this product! It's the perfect item to have on hand for moisture and shine refreshment but also a boost in fresh scent in between blow-drys! My hair instantly felt smooth, soft and manageable in seconds!

  • Product Review of the Day: Tibolli Volume Obsessed Shampoo & Conditioner!

tibolli volume obsessed shampoo and conditioner, tibolli volume obsessed shampoo, tibolli volume obsessed conditioner, volume shampoo, volume conditioner, volume obsessed shampoo, volume obsessed conditioner, tibolli review

Well it's only fair that after trying all of the other keratin lines we've been showing love to that we try out some products from our other favorite brand, too. Tibolli has been taking the keratin world by storm with their keratin treatments and product line but I think these this duo holds the Tibolli crown. Tibolli's Volume Obsessed Shampoo and Conditioner with color protection is the answer to all of our keratin prayers. Volume AND smooth straight hair? Yes, you heard me right! Here's a little more about this miracle regimen ;)

Description & Benefits: The Tibolli Volume Obsessed Shampoo with Color Protection will give your hair a fresh cleanse while adding body and volume. The Tibolli Shampoo is enhanced with natural plant extracts that will deliver weightless natural hydration to the hair and scalp. Natural seed oils hydrate the hair, leaving it replenished and conditioned. This shampoo is free of SLS (Sodium Laurl Sulfate) and SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate) that will protect your color treatment.  This shampoo is also free of Sodium Chloride for preservation of the Tibolli Keratin Treatments and is safe for all other keratin treatments. There are no unnecessary petrolatum mineral oils, allowing complete nourishment of the hair.

Feel & Scent: I love the super silky feel of the shampoo and conditioner but love that they don't leave a greasy residue in the hair. The best part about this product is the scent. Other keratin shampoo's and conditioners are lacking in the yum factor, but not these guys. Both the shampoo and conditioner have a baby-sweet powder-like scent that leave your hair smelling fresh and fabulous

Usage: I used the Volume Obsessed Shampoo and Conditioner post-keratin treatment for about a week. I shampooed once and loved the lather. Although it wasn't super sudsy (as most other keratin shampoos are), the shampoo evenly distributed all over my head and left it clean after only one shampoo. For the conditioner, I used about a quarter sized amount and started at the ends of my hair and worked my way up. The conditioner is super silky but feels incredibly lightweight and instantly detangled my knotty hair without leaving a greasy residue after rinsing.

Results: Well, I think Tibolli nailed it in the name. I'm OBSESSED with this shampoo and conditioner combo. This is exactly the product I have been searching for! I absolutely love getting keratin treatments done, especially in the humid summer months, but hate how flat it can make my hair look. This duo puts that worry in the past. With this shampoo I'm able to have super soft and shiny hair with tons of fullness and all over volume. This is hands down my new favorite post-keratin routine!

    Stay full and fabulous!

  • How to Handle Highly Processed Haircolor

hair, over processed hair, hair color, over processed hair color, highly processed hair color, highly processed hair, how to handle highly processed hair, how to handle over processed hair

Are you having a problem controlling your overly dry, over-processed hair? Unfortunately, we know a lot of you are - especially if you love highlights as much as I do! Highly processed hair can be troublesome for everyone including hair stylists! As a matter of fact, most stylists can sometimes suffer the most from over processed hair because we just can't get enough of changing our hair to keep up with the latest trends and treatments! So, what can we do to keep our highly-processed hair as healthy as possible? Here's a few quick tricks I've found to be the most effective at preventing excess damage

1.) For The Platinum Blondes or Highlight Addicts: Although it's tempting to go more blonde during each visit, there's a much less damaging way to brighten up your older growth while getting your touch ups. Talk to your stylists about only bleaching or coloring your new growth and using a platinum, or purple/ash toner on the ends. Most clients LOVE the way these toners knock out any brassiness that's accumulated from the daily elements and it's a super quick and non-damaging way to brighten your older growth up to the same shade as your fresh roots! Also, if you're getting highlights frequently, ask your stylist to only touch up your roots in the foil. Even if they don't perfectly line up with your old weaved pattern -- you will never be able to tell! It's a great way to prevent over processing the blonde that is already there!

2.) Use Alternating Deep Conditioning Treatments: One thing many people using deep conditioners don't know is that you need to switch it up. A lot of masques or deep conditioners designed to strengthen and reinforce hair are VERY high in protein and although this is great periodically, too much protein can also cause you're hair to become stiff and in turn, more brittle! So, with that said, be mindful of how many times a week you use it, 2-4 times a month of a strengthening treatment should be all you need. On the off weeks, be sure to use a hydrating or moisture based deep conditioner, since after all, that's what our over-processed hair needs most!

3.) Trim, Trim, Trim! If you're hair is already over processed, no matter how many deep conditioners you can use, the best way to prevent excess breakage is by cutting off those split ends before the continue to split higher and break off -- ESPECIALLY if you are trying to grow your hair out; no one wants to be left with fly aways and a stringy mop! Monthly trims, even if they are only 1/4-1/2", will prevent tons of breakage from spreading from ends to mid-shaft, which will leave you with a much fuller and more shiny head of hair...even if it is a little over-processed!

Hope this helps you on your way to growing your hair long and strong!

    • 8.5 oz Simply Smooth Xtend Keratin Reparative Magic Potion Conditioner

Feel: I'm loving the creamy lather you get from the shampoo that gets slightly more lather than other keratin shampoos on the market. The condition is super lightweight and they both smell FABULOUS. All of these products have a delicious tropical scent that lasts until your next shampoo! The Reparative Magic Potion comes in a convenient spray bottle that sprays on like a lightweight slightly creamy detangler and combs through in seconds. Magic Potion Intense Blowout has a slippery texture that helps make a little bit go a long way without weighing the hair down while packing your hair with reparative keratin and nutrients.

For a Standard or Daily Blowout: For a regular magic potion blowout,  I started by shampooing my hair with the Magic Potion Shampoo and Conditioner. I shampooed once, rinsed, and applied the conditioner (focusing mainly on the midshaft-ends of my hair) and left it on for about 5 minutes. Once towel dried, apply the Reparative Magic Potion Spray all over and comb through. Blow out as usual.

For a Reparative Blowout: Shampoo your hair as you would for a standard blow out but DO NOT condition. Apply a generous amount of Magic Potion Intense Blowout from scalp to ends. I used just shy of a quarter sized amount. Blow hair out as usual and follow up with a flat iron for extra longevity.

Results: I am in love with these blowouts. They leave the hair super smooth and shiny... Not just for hours but until your next shampoo (and even longer with the Intense Blowout!) The best part? This doesn't take any additional time than your regular shampoo and blow-dry routine and is like getting a mini keratin treatment or keratin refresher every time you shampoo. This is an absolute MUST for salons. This add on service can instantly boost your revenue without taking any extra time. Imagine if you increased your blowout price by 10 dollars, took no extra time and did this on 5 clients a day? That's an extra $50.00 added to your week without having to come in early or stay late! Pretty hard to resist right?
